Tests Details :
CT – Mastoid is a specialized imaging procedure that uses computed tomography (CT) to obtain detailed images of the mastoid portion of the temporal bone, located behind the ear. The mastoid contains air-filled spaces (mastoid air cells) that are connected to the middle ear.
This scan provides excellent visualization of the mastoid air cells, middle ear cavity, and surrounding bony structures. It is particularly useful for diagnosing mastoiditis, chronic ear infections, cholesteatoma, and other ear-related conditions.
CT Mastoid is commonly performed in patients with persistent ear pain, discharge, hearing loss, or suspected complications of middle ear infections. It is also important for pre-operative evaluation and surgical planning in ear procedures.
The scan is quick, non-invasive, and typically performed without contrast, although contrast may be used in specific cases to evaluate soft tissue involvement.
This test is recommended for individuals with symptoms related to ear and mastoid conditions.
It is advised in the following cases:
- Persistent ear pain or discharge
- Hearing loss
- Suspected mastoiditis
- Chronic or recurrent ear infections
- Suspected cholesteatoma
- Pre-operative or post-operative evaluation
