CT - Cisternography Intrathecal Contrast

CT – Cisternography (Intrathecal Contrast) is an advanced diagnostic imaging procedure used to evaluate the flow and distribution of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) within the brain and spinal canal. The procedure involves the injection of a contrast agent directly into the subarachnoid space (intrathecal injection), usually via a lumbar puncture.

After the contrast is administered, CT imaging is performed to visualize CSF pathways, including the basal cisterns, ventricles, and surrounding structures. This allows precise detection of abnormalities such as CSF leaks, fistulas, blockages, or structural defects.

CT Cisternography is particularly useful in patients with suspected CSF leaks (such as nasal or ear discharge), post-traumatic or post-surgical complications, and certain congenital abnormalities. It provides high-resolution images that aid in accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.

The procedure is minimally invasive but requires careful technique and is typically performed under sterile conditions by experienced specialists.
