The Mean Platelet Volume (MPV) test is a blood test that measures the average size of platelets, which are small cell fragments involved in blood clotting. It is usually included as part of a Complete Blood Count (CBC).

Platelet size can indicate how well platelets are being produced and how active they are. Larger platelets are typically younger and more active, while smaller platelets may indicate older or less active cells.

Abnormal MPV values may be associated with conditions such as platelet disorders, inflammation, bone marrow diseases, or increased risk of clotting or bleeding. This test is often interpreted along with platelet count and other blood parameters for accurate diagnosis.
