The HIV – P24 Test is a diagnostic blood test that detects the p24 antigen, a protein that is part of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). This antigen appears in the blood during the early stages of HIV infection, often before antibodies are produced.

Because of its ability to detect infection earlier than standard antibody tests, the p24 test is useful for early diagnosis, especially after recent exposure.

The purpose of this test is to:

  • Detect the p24 antigen of HIV in the blood
  • Enable early diagnosis of HIV infection
  • Identify infection before antibodies are detectable
  • Assist in timely treatment and prevention of transmission
