The Gastrin Level – Serum Test is a blood test used to measure the level of gastrin, a hormone that stimulates the stomach to produce acid. Gastrin plays an important role in digestion, but abnormal levels may indicate underlying medical conditions.

Elevated gastrin levels can be associated with conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (gastrinoma), chronic gastritis, or prolonged use of acid-suppressing medications. Low levels are less common but may also have clinical significance.

The purpose of this test is to:

  • Measure gastrin hormone levels in the blood
  • Diagnose conditions causing excessive stomach acid production
  • Help detect Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (gastrinoma)
