The Free Kappa Light Chain Test is a blood test used to measure the level of free kappa light chains, which are components of antibodies produced by plasma cells. Normally, light chains are bound to heavy chains, but small amounts circulate freely in the blood.

Abnormal levels of free kappa light chains may indicate plasma cell disorders such as multiple myeloma, light chain amyloidosis, or other related conditions. This test is often used along with free lambda light chain testing and the kappa/lambda ratio to provide a more accurate diagnosis and monitoring of these disorders.

The purpose of this test is to:

• Measure free kappa light chain levels in the blood
• Assist in diagnosing plasma cell disorders
• Help detect conditions like multiple myeloma and amyloidosis
• Monitor disease progression and treatment response
• Evaluate abnormal protein production in the body
