Tests Details :
USG – INFANT SPINE is a specialized ultrasound examination performed in infants to assess the spinal canal, spinal cord, vertebrae, and nearby soft tissue structures. This scan is usually carried out in newborns and young infants before the spinal bones fully harden, allowing clear ultrasound visualization.
The examination helps detect congenital spinal abnormalities such as spina bifida, tethered cord syndrome, spinal cysts, fluid collections, lipomas, and other developmental conditions affecting the spine and spinal cord.
Infant spine ultrasound is commonly recommended when there are skin markers over the lower back, such as dimples, swelling, hair patches, or discoloration, or when neurological symptoms raise concern for underlying spinal abnormalities.
The procedure is safe, painless, radiation-free, and provides real-time imaging that supports early diagnosis and timely treatment planning if required.
