Tests Details :
CT – Virtual Colonoscopy, also known as CT Colonography, is a specialized imaging procedure that uses computed tomography (CT) scanning to create detailed, three-dimensional images of the colon and rectum. It is a non-invasive alternative to conventional colonoscopy for screening and evaluation of the large intestine.
During the procedure, a small tube is inserted into the rectum to gently inflate the colon with air or carbon dioxide. This allows clear visualization of the colon walls. The patient then undergoes a CT scan, which captures multiple images that are reconstructed into a 3D view for detailed examination.
This test is commonly used to detect polyps, colorectal cancer, inflammation, diverticulosis, and other structural abnormalities. It is particularly useful for patients who are unable or unwilling to undergo traditional colonoscopy.
CT Virtual Colonoscopy is quick, minimally uncomfortable, and does not require sedation, allowing patients to resume normal activities shortly after the procedure.
This test is recommended for individuals requiring colon evaluation or screening.
It is advised in the following cases:
- Screening for colorectal cancer
- Family history of colon cancer
- Change in bowel habits
- Unexplained abdominal pain
- Blood in stool
- Patients unable to undergo conventional colonoscopy
- Follow-up evaluation of known colon conditions.
