Tests Details :

The X-Ray – MCU (Micturating Cystourethrogram) is a specialized fluoroscopic imaging procedure used to examine the urinary bladder and urethra. This test involves filling the bladder with a contrast dye through a catheter and taking X-ray images while the patient urinates.

It is primarily used to assess the function and structure of the lower urinary tract and to detect abnormalities such as vesicoureteral reflux (backflow of urine from the bladder to the kidneys), urethral obstruction, strictures, or congenital defects.

The MCU is especially valuable in pediatric cases and in patients with recurrent urinary tract infections, difficulty in urination, or suspected urinary tract abnormalities. The dynamic imaging during urination provides important functional information that cannot be obtained through routine X-rays.

This test is performed under medical supervision with proper sterile precautions and is crucial for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning of urinary tract disorders.

The purpose of the X-Ray MCU is to evaluate the structure and function of the bladder and urethra during urination.

It helps to:

  • Detect vesicoureteral reflux (VUR)
  • Identify urethral strictures or obstruction
  • Assess bladder function and emptying
  • Diagnose congenital abnormalities of the urinary tract
  • Evaluate recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs)
  • Detect structural defects in the lower urinary system

Tests Preparation :

Consult your doctor. Wear comfortable clothing Inform if pregnant Follow instructions regarding catheterization during the test Follow any specific instructions given by your healthcare provider
