The WIDAL Test (Tube Method) is a blood test used to help diagnose typhoid fever, an infection caused by the bacteria Salmonella typhi. The test works by detecting antibodies produced by the immune system in response to the bacteria.
During the test, the patient’s blood serum is mixed with specific antigens in test tubes. If antibodies against Salmonella typhi are present, a visible reaction occurs, which helps indicate a possible infection.
When a person shows symptoms such as persistent fever, headache, stomach pain, weakness, loss of appetite, or diarrhea. These symptoms may suggest typhoid fever or related infections.
The tube method is considered more reliable than rapid slide tests because it provides a more detailed measurement of antibody levels. The results help doctors evaluate the infection and decide the appropriate treatment.
