The VDRL (Venereal Disease Research Laboratory) / RPR (Rapid Plasma Reagin) Titre test is a screening and monitoring test used to detect antibodies produced in response to Treponema pallidum, the bacterium that causes syphilis.

Unlike qualitative tests that simply report reactive or non-reactive results, the titre test measures the concentration of antibodies in the blood. This helps determine the severity of infection and monitor the effectiveness of treatment over time.

The test is commonly used for initial screening, follow-up after treatment, and in prenatal care to prevent transmission of infection. Changes in titre levels can indicate whether the infection is improving, stable, or worsening.

Early detection and monitoring through this test are important for timely treatment and prevention of complications associated with syphilis.
