The Thyroglobulin (TG) – Serum test is a blood test that measures the level of thyroglobulin, a protein produced by the thyroid gland. Thyroglobulin plays a key role in the production of thyroid hormones (T3 and T4).

This test is primarily used as a tumor marker in patients with thyroid cancer, especially after thyroid removal (thyroidectomy). It helps in monitoring treatment effectiveness and detecting recurrence of cancer.

The test measures the concentration of thyroglobulin in the blood. After thyroid removal or treatment, thyroglobulin levels should be very low or undetectable. Elevated levels may indicate residual thyroid tissue or recurrence of thyroid cancer.

The purpose of this test is to:

  • Measure thyroglobulin levels in the blood
  • Monitor thyroid cancer treatment
  • Detect recurrence of thyroid cancer
  • Evaluate residual thyroid tissue after surgery
  • Support assessment of thyroid gland function

Tests Preparation :
