Low levels of protein S may increase the risk of developing abnormal blood clots (thrombosis), which can lead to serious conditions such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or pulmonary embolism. Deficiency may be inherited or acquired due to medical conditions, pregnancy, or certain medications.
