This test is highly sensitive and is often used to detect early or mild vitamin B12 deficiency, even when vitamin B12 levels appear normal. Elevated MMA levels can also indicate certain metabolic disorders or impaired kidney function.
The test is especially useful in evaluating patients with symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, neurological issues, or anemia related to vitamin B12 deficiency.

- To measure methylmalonic acid levels in the blood
