The Infectious Mononucleosis (IM) Monospot Test is a rapid screening test used to detect heterophile antibodies produced during infection with the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), the primary cause of infectious mononucleosis.
Mononucleosis, often called “mono” or the “kissing disease,” commonly presents with symptoms such as fever, sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, fatigue, and enlarged spleen. The Monospot test helps provide quick preliminary diagnosis by identifying these antibodies in the blood.
