IA2 INSULINOMA ASSOCIATED ANTIGEN Test
The IA-2 Antibody Test detects antibodies against Insulinoma-Associated Antigen 2 (IA-2), a protein found in the insulin-producing beta cells of the pancreas. IA-2 antibodies are one of several islet autoantibodies associated with autoimmune destruction of pancreatic beta cells.
This test is mainly used when type 1 diabetes or autoimmune diabetes is suspected. The presence of IA-2 antibodies indicates an autoimmune response against pancreatic islet cells and can support the assessment of diabetes type and the risk of developing type 1 diabetes in individuals who do not yet have symptoms.
