The GAD Antibody Test is a blood test used to detect antibodies against glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD), an enzyme found in pancreatic beta cells. The presence of these antibodies indicates an autoimmune response where the body attacks insulin-producing cells.
This test is commonly used to help diagnose Type 1 diabetes and latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA).
The purpose of this test is to:
- Detect antibodies against glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD)
- Diagnose autoimmune diabetes (Type 1 and LADA)
- Differentiate between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes
- Assess autoimmune activity affecting pancreatic cells
- Support early diagnosis and treatment planning
