The HOMA-IR (Homeostatic Model Assessment of Insulin Resistance) Test is used to evaluate how effectively the body uses insulin. It is calculated using fasting blood glucose and fasting insulin levels to estimate insulin resistance.

Insulin resistance occurs when the body’s cells do not respond properly to insulin, leading to elevated blood sugar levels. This condition is commonly associated with type 2 diabetes, obesity, metabolic syndrome, and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

The purpose of this test is to:

  • Assess insulin resistance
  • Evaluate risk of type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome
  • Monitor glucose-insulin balance
  • Support early detection of metabolic disorders
