HEPATITIS C VIRAL (HCV RNA), QUANTITATIVE, ULTRA Test

The Hepatitis C Viral (HCV RNA), Quantitative, Ultra test is a highly sensitive molecular test that detects and measures the amount of Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) RNA in the blood. It uses PCR-based technology to determine the viral load, usually reported in IU/mL.

Unlike an HCV antibody test, which indicates whether a person has been exposed to the virus, an HCV RNA test helps determine whether HCV is currently present and actively replicating.

The quantitative result is particularly useful for establishing a baseline viral load before treatment and for monitoring response to antiviral therapy. A reduction or undetectable HCV RNA during and after treatment can help doctors assess treatment effectiveness and sustained virologic response.
