HEPATITIS B CORE ANTIBODY IGM(ANTI HBC-IGM) ELISA Test

The Hepatitis B Core Antibody IgM (Anti-HBc IgM) – ELISA test detects IgM antibodies produced against the core antigen of the hepatitis B virus (HBV).

This test is primarily used to help identify a recent or acute hepatitis B infection. Anti-HBc IgM may appear during the early phase of infection and can also be present during some flare-ups or reactivation of chronic hepatitis B.

The result is generally interpreted along with other hepatitis B markers, such as HBsAg, Anti-HBs, and total Anti-HBc, as well as liver function tests and clinical findings.

1. What does a positive Anti-HBc IgM result mean?

2. Is Anti-HBc IgM the same as the hepatitis B surface antigen test?
