The Free Light Chain Assay is a blood test used to measure the levels of free kappa and lambda light chains, which are components of antibodies produced by plasma cells. Normally, light chains are bound to heavy chains, but a small amount circulates freely in the bloodstream.

Abnormal levels of these free light chains, or an abnormal kappa/lambda ratio, may indicate plasma cell disorders such as multiple myeloma, light chain amyloidosis, or other related conditions.

The purpose of this test is to:

  • Measure free kappa and lambda light chains in the blood
  • Evaluate the kappa/lambda ratio
  • Diagnose plasma cell disorders such as multiple myeloma
  • Detect light chain amyloidosis and related conditions
  • Monitor disease progression and treatment response

Tests Prepration :
