DS DNA ANTIBODIES Test

The Anti-dsDNA (Double-Stranded DNA Antibody) test detects autoantibodies directed against the body’s own double-stranded DNA. These antibodies are strongly associated with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and can provide important information when lupus is suspected.

The test is often performed as a follow-up to an ANA (antinuclear antibody) test, particularly when symptoms suggest an autoimmune connective tissue disease. Anti-dsDNA levels may also be useful for monitoring disease activity in some people with established lupus, especially when there is concern about lupus-related kidney involvement.

A positive result does not diagnose lupus by itself. The result should be interpreted together with symptoms, medical history, ANA findings, complement levels, urine tests, kidney function tests, and other autoimmune investigations.
