The Des-Gamma Carboxy Prothrombin (DCP), also known as PIVKA-II (Protein Induced by Vitamin K Absence or Antagonist-II), is a diagnostic blood test used as a tumor marker, particularly for hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer).

This test measures abnormal prothrombin produced due to defective vitamin K–dependent processes in liver cells. Elevated levels of DCP may indicate the presence of liver cancer or other liver-related conditions.

The purpose of the test is to:

  • Detect and monitor liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma)
  • Measure levels of abnormal prothrombin (PIVKA-II)
  • Support early diagnosis of liver tumors
  • Monitor treatment response and disease progression
