ACID FAST BACILLI (AFB)/ Z.N STAIN test is most commonly used to detect Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacteria responsible for Tuberculosis. It is a quick and cost-effective screening method often performed on sputum samples, but can also be used on other body fluids or tissue samples.

The AFB / Z.N Stain Test is performed to:

  • Detect Tuberculosis quickly

  • Identify acid-fast bacteria in samples

  • Screen patients with suspected TB infection

  • Support diagnosis along with other tests

  • Monitor infectious conditions

 

Tests Prepration :

Consult your doctor. The test preparation involves collecting early morning deep-cough sputum samples over 2–3 consecutive days to maximize detection of TB-causing bacteria. No specific fasting is required for sputum, but patients should rinse their mouths with water, avoid food 1-2 hours prior, and avoid smoking for 24 hours.
The AFB / Z.N Stain Test is a microscopic test used to detect acid-fast bacteria in a sample. It is commonly used for the rapid diagnosis of Tuberculosis.
