Tests Details :
CT – Prostate Biopsy is a diagnostic procedure used to obtain small tissue samples from the prostate gland for laboratory analysis. The procedure is performed under computed tomography (CT) guidance to ensure accurate needle placement, especially in complex or difficult cases.
During the procedure, a biopsy needle is carefully guided into the prostate to collect tissue samples from targeted areas. These samples are then examined under a microscope by a pathologist to detect abnormalities such as prostate cancer, inflammation, or other conditions.
CT guidance enhances precision and helps in targeting suspicious areas identified on prior imaging studies. Although prostate biopsies are more commonly performed using ultrasound guidance, CT-guided biopsy may be used in selected cases where additional imaging accuracy is required.
The procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia and is minimally invasive, with a relatively short recovery time.
This test is recommended for individuals with suspected prostate abnormalities.
It is advised in the following cases:
- Elevated PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) levels
- Abnormal findings on prostate imaging
- Suspected prostate cancer
- Enlarged prostate with unclear cause
- Follow-up evaluation of known prostate conditions
