Tests Details :
CT – PNS (Paranasal Sinuses) Axial / Coronal is a specialized imaging procedure that uses computed tomography (CT) to obtain detailed cross-sectional images of the sinus cavities in both axial (horizontal) and coronal (vertical) planes.
This scan provides a comprehensive view of the paranasal sinuses, including the maxillary, frontal, ethmoid, and sphenoid sinuses, along with adjacent nasal structures. The dual-plane imaging allows accurate assessment of sinus anatomy, drainage pathways, and any pathological changes.
CT PNS is commonly used to diagnose sinusitis, nasal obstruction, polyps, deviated nasal septum, and sinus tumors. It is also essential for pre-surgical planning, especially before functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS).
The procedure is quick, non-invasive, and typically performed without contrast, although contrast may be used in specific cases for better evaluation of soft tissue abnormalities.
This test is recommended for individuals with symptoms related to sinus or nasal conditions.
It is advised in the following cases:
- Persistent sinus pain or pressure
- Nasal blockage or congestion
- Chronic or recurrent sinusitis
- Headache related to sinus issues
- Suspected nasal polyps or tumors
- Pre-operative evaluation for sinus surgery
- Follow-up evaluation of sinus conditions
