Vitamin K1 is mainly obtained from foods such as green leafy vegetables, broccoli, and vegetable oils. The body uses this vitamin to produce proteins that are necessary for normal blood clotting. Therefore, maintaining adequate levels of vitamin K is essential to prevent excessive bleeding.

Low levels of vitamin K may lead to easy bruising, excessive bleeding, or delayed clotting of blood. Doctors may recommend this test to evaluate vitamin K deficiency, investigate bleeding disorders, or monitor certain medical conditions related to nutrient absorption.
