USG - Twin NT Scan
USG - TWIN NT SCAN is an important prenatal ultrasound examination carried out during the first trimester, usually between 11 and 14 weeks of pregnancy, for women carrying twins. The scan primarily measures the nuchal translucency (NT), which is the fluid-filled space at the back of each baby’s neck.
Increased NT measurements may be associated with chromosomal abnormalities such as Down syndrome, congenital heart defects, or other genetic conditions. Along with NT measurement, the scan evaluates fetal heartbeat, growth, anatomy, nasal bone, and overall development of both fetuses.
The examination also helps determine chorionicity and amnionicity, which indicate whether the twins share the same placenta or amniotic sac. This information is essential for monitoring and managing twin pregnancies effectively.
The scan plays a key role in early prenatal screening and helps doctors decide whether additional tests or closer pregnancy monitoring may be required.
