Tests Details :
USG – GUIDED BAKER CYST ASPIRATION is a minimally invasive procedure performed under real-time ultrasound guidance to remove excess fluid from a Baker’s cyst, also known as a popliteal cyst. A Baker’s cyst is a fluid-filled swelling that develops behind the knee, often associated with arthritis, knee inflammation, cartilage injury, or other joint disorders.
During the procedure, ultrasound imaging helps the doctor precisely locate the cyst and guide a needle into the fluid collection for safe and accurate aspiration. In some cases, medication such as corticosteroids may also be injected after fluid removal to help reduce inflammation and recurrence.
Ultrasound guidance improves procedural accuracy, minimizes injury to nearby structures such as blood vessels and nerves, and enhances patient comfort. The procedure is commonly performed to relieve pain, reduce swelling, improve knee movement, and assist in diagnosing underlying joint conditions.
The procedure is generally quick, safe, and performed on an outpatient basis.
