Tests Details :
MRI – Fistulogram is an advanced imaging procedure that uses magnetic fields and radio waves to produce detailed images of fistula tracts, their course, and connections with surrounding structures. It is most commonly used in the evaluation of anal and perianal fistulas but can also be applied to other types of fistulous tracts in the body.
This scan provides high-resolution visualization of the primary tract, secondary extensions, abscesses, and involvement of surrounding muscles and tissues. It is particularly useful for pre-surgical planning, helping surgeons accurately map the fistula and reduce the risk of recurrence or complications.
MRI Fistulogram is highly sensitive and offers superior soft tissue contrast compared to other imaging modalities. In many cases, contrast material may be used to enhance the visibility of the fistula tract and associated inflammation. The procedure is safe, painless, and does not involve radiation.
This test is recommended for individuals:
- Suspected of having fistula (especially anal or perianal)
- With recurrent infections or abscesses
- Experiencing persistent discharge or pain
- Undergoing evaluation before fistula surgery
- With previously treated fistula requiring follow-up
- With inconclusive findings from other imaging tests
