Tests Details :
MRI – Defecography is an advanced imaging procedure that assesses the structure and function of the pelvic floor, rectum, and surrounding organs during the process of defecation. Using magnetic fields and real-time imaging sequences, this test provides dynamic visualization of how the pelvic organs move and function.
This scan is particularly useful in diagnosing conditions such as pelvic floor dysfunction, rectocele, enterocele, rectal prolapse, and obstructed defecation syndrome. It helps evaluate abnormalities in coordination of pelvic muscles and structural defects that may not be visible on static imaging.
During the procedure, a gel-like substance may be introduced into the rectum to simulate stool, allowing accurate assessment of bowel movement. MRI Defecography is non-invasive, does not involve radiation, and provides detailed information that is crucial for diagnosis and treatment planning.
This test is recommended for individuals:
- Experiencing chronic constipation or difficulty in bowel movement
- Suspected of pelvic floor dysfunction
- With symptoms of rectal prolapse
- Having incomplete bowel evacuation
- With unexplained anorectal symptoms
- Requiring a detailed functional pelvic evaluation
