Tests Details :
MRI – Abdomen Venography with Contrast is a specialized imaging procedure that focuses on detailed evaluation of the venous system in the abdominal region using contrast-enhanced MRI techniques. It provides high-resolution images of major abdominal veins such as the portal vein, hepatic veins, inferior vena cava (IVC), renal veins, and other vascular structures.
The use of contrast material (gadolinium-based) enhances visualization of blood flow and helps identify abnormalities such as venous thrombosis, blockages, narrowing, vascular malformations, and compression of veins. It is particularly useful in assessing liver-related vascular conditions, portal hypertension, and other circulatory disorders.
This scan also provides additional information about surrounding abdominal organs, helping in comprehensive evaluation and diagnosis. It plays an important role in treatment planning, surgical evaluation, and monitoring of vascular conditions.
The procedure is safe, non-invasive, and does not involve radiation, though it includes contrast administration.
This test is recommended for individuals:
- Suspected of abdominal venous thrombosis
- With liver disease or portal hypertension
- Experiencing unexplained abdominal symptoms
- With abnormal findings on other imaging tests
- Requiring detailed vascular evaluation
- Undergoing follow-up for vascular conditions
